PTE Academic sample essay climate as field of study

Climate change is one of humankind’s most significant challenges in the 21st century. In recent years, the effects of global warming have become increasingly apparent to society, leading to extreme weather phenomena, rising sea levels, and numerous other detrimental outcomes. Therefore, it is now more important than ever to take swift, decisive action to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

One of the primary causes of the increased concentrations of these gasses is the burning of fossil fuels in coal, natural gas, and oil. This burning releases carbon dioxide, contributing to the greenhouse effect. Additionally, the leaching of nitrogen and phosphorous due to industrial farming also adds to the higher concentrations of these gases. Finally, deforestation has become another significant contributor to rising levels of greenhouse gases, as it reduces exogenous carbon sinks, increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Fortunately, there are ways to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. One of the most effective methods is to invest in renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydropower. Additionally, the promotion of green transportation and the development of energy efficiency measures can help to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Reforestation and other land use practices can also help reduce climate change’s impacts. In addition, policymakers must invest in adaptation measures to assist communities in adjusting to the effects of climate change.

All of us need to work together to reduce the impacts of climate change. The next generations are relying on us to create a future where they can thrive and be resilient to the—sometimes dramatic—changes the environment is undergoing. The solutions are out there, and it is time to take action. If we fail to do this, the consequences could be dire.
